For many of us, getting engaged comes with a dreamy checklist straight out of a fairytale. One of those "once-upon-a-time" traditions is your partner sitting down with your dad to ask for his blessing before popping the question. 

In today's world, we know some of these traditions, although lovely in theory, can get messy in real life.

That's exactly what happened to one young woman who had been dreaming of her boyfriend following this charming tradition. And to his credit, he went all in. 

And so, I am thrilled to share a true modern fairytale with you all: 

The Princess, the Humble Hero, and the Kingdom of High Expectations

Once upon a time, in a grand kingdom, there lived a kind and courageous princess who fell deeply in love with a humble hero. Though he came from modest beginnings, his heart was pure, his love unwavering, and his dreams as big as the sky. The princess was certain they were destined to live happily ever after.  

But standing in their way was the heartless king, her father, who believed only a suitor of wealth and status was worthy of his daughter's hand. When the brave hero approached the king to ask for his blessing, hoping to honor the traditions the princess so cherished, the king did not grant it. Instead, he coldly spoke of riches, power, and stability, dismissing the hero's virtues entirely.  

The princess, though heartbroken at first, soon realized that true love was bigger than the king's approval. The hero promised they would build their life together, wealth or not, one step at a time. Together, they learned that happily ever after isn't about castles or crowns—it's about standing by each other, no matter the obstacles.  

And so, the princess and her hero set out to write their own story, proving that love, not gold, is the greatest treasure of all.
